Winterizing Your Sprinkler System

Winterizing Your Sprinkler System

It is that time of year!

With winter fast approaching it is that time of year when it is necessary to winterize your sprinkler system!

Winterizing is part of regular maintenance of your irrigation system. This is not a free service and fees do apply..

Sprinkler Winterization:

Every year, before the first freeze, the ritual of irrigation “blow out” becomes the priority for all irrigation systems.  Even if you have drained some water out of the system, the remaining water can freeze, expand and crack the piping.  Water left inside could freeze and rupture the pipe walls.  Freezing water in the backflow assembly will damage the internal components and could possibly crack.  To minimize the risk of freeze damage to your irrigation system, you’ll need to “winterize” your irrigation system.

Please Note: Pipes are not in danger of freezing until temperatures dip below freezing for longer periods of time.  While it is great to be cautious, it is important to remember that once your system is winterized it cannot be used again until spring.

Bring in Garden hoses- It is often overlooked that hoses need to be brought in for the winter.  This prevents damage to them by the freezing of residual water within the hose.
